A day at the races is your chance to dress up and have some fun!
Here’s a step-by-step guide to surviving raceday fashionably.
- Let's start with your frock. Think elegant and well-structured. Choose a dress that conveys your personality and you feel confident in.Check out What’s In Season for style tips.
- Next up: Your hat (or fascinator). This is a key element of your overall look so choose headwear that complements your dress and help to complete your outfit. Need inspiration? Check out our .
- When selecting shoes think: gorgeous, posh, and sexy - with a practical twist. Those stylish stilettos look fabulous but stash a flatter, back-up pair for later in the night. Heel savers are a great idea if you’re going to be out on the lawn.
- Time to accessorise! Your handbag should be an elegant extension of your outfit that’s big enough to hold your ‘raceday essentials’ (below). Choose jewellery that complements your dress, hat, shoes and handbag. Gloves add a touch of glamour and sunglasses are a must – especially if the sun is shining.
- The final detail of your overall look is in your grooming. A manicure, pedicure, styled hair, perfect makeup and your signature scent are essentials for the day. Give your skin a healthy glow with a spray or self-tan, followed by a generous application of moisturiser on the day.
- Now your outfit is sorted, it’s time to think about a backup. New Zealand weather is notoriously changeable so sort a second outfit in case the weather turns. And keep a coat and umbrella on hand… Just in case.
- You look stunning. But can you last the distance? Eat a good breakfast in the morning (it could be the last thing you eat for hours) and keep hydrated throughout the day. (And no – champagne does not count as ‘hydration’.)
- Raceday essentials to pack: Panadol, sunscreen, a safety pin (just in case of mishaps), make-up re-application kit (foundation, lips and eyes), a mini hairspray for your handbag and those little lifesavers, band-aids.
- Okay gorgeous, you’re ready to go! Have fun and make sure you organise a safe route home. Oh and don’t forget to tag a selfie on !
